Cristiano Ronaldo says it was a ‘pleasure’ to have worked under Rudi Garcia at Al-Nassr and has wished him well for the future despite claims he played a role in the manager’s sacking.

The French coach was dismissed on Thursday following a goalless draw at the weekend against midtable Al Feiha.

Ronaldo cut a very frustrated figure in the match, with the result leaving Al-Nassr three points adrift of table-topping Al-Ittihad with just seven games left to play this season.

‘Al-Nassr can announce that head coach Rudi Garcia has left the club by mutual agreement,’ read a statement from the Saudi club.

‘The board and everyone at Al-Nassr would like to thank Rudi and his staff for their dedicated work during the past eight months.’

Garcia’s post-match press conference on Sunday was cancelled following the draw with Al Feiha and there were reports in Spanish newspaper Marca – who are close to Ronaldo’s camp – that the manager had had a huge bust-up in the dressing room afterwards.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner was not happy during the game, particularly with what he felt was time-wasting from the opponents, and stormed down the tunnel when the final whistle was blown.

It was claimed that the 38-year-old had become increasingly frustrated with Garcia and the tactics employed by the former Lille manager – and had let Al-Nassr’s hierarchy know about it.

The Saudi club decided to side with their superstar attacker and Garcia was relived of his duties, with Under-19s coach Dinko Jelicic taking over the reins for now.

If Ronaldo did have a falling out with Garcia, he did not show any signs of it on social media following the news and sent a classy message to his now ex-manager.

Alongside an image of Ronaldo sharing a handshake with Garcia, he wrote on his Instagram stories: ‘Pleasure to have worked with you. Wishing you all the best for the future.’

Ronaldo has been in excellent form for Al-Nassr since joining on a mammoth contract, netting 11 goals in 10 appearances as well as laying on two assists.

However, he is believed to be unhappy with the level of his new team-mates – who were dumped out of the Saudi Cup earlier in the season.

Al-Nassr are next in action against Al-Hilal – who are fourth and only seven points behind – on Tuesday April 18 in what has effectively become a must-win match in the title race.
