Water has started receding from several areas of Bengaluru, but residents and IT hubs continue to worry over the weather department’s warnings of more rain. However, several parts of Bengaluru continue to remain flooded. In the last few days video media has witnessed multiple videos of the flooded streets of the Karnataka capital.
Amidst this, a video showing a crocodile passing through the waterlogged lanes is widely circulating on social media. Users claim that this crocodile was spotted in the waterlogged lanes of Bellandur in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
The caption of the post states, “Bellandur: Crocodile come for a walk in Bangalore roads.”
Fact Check-
We started our investigation with the help of keyword search on YouTube whose results led us to a news report by ETV published on 16 August 2022.
According to this report, the crocodile had wandered into a residential colony in Madhya Pradesh’s Shivpuri district.The reptile was spotted in a colony near the old bus stand. A rescue team from Madhav National Park was called in and the crocodile was captured after an hour-long effort. It mentions that the reptile was later released into Sankhya Sagar Lake.
Several media houses such as Hindustan Times and News18 reported that this crocodile entered a colony in Shivpuri city on August 14 and this was not the first time a crocodile was seen in residential area in Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh. According to a video published by the Hindustan Times, the rescue team caught the crocodile and released it into a nearby lake.
Conclusion-
Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the video to be False. The viral video does not show footage of a crocodile casually passing by a waterlogged lane in Bengaluru. The video is from Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh. It has no relation with the ongoing floods in Karnataka. The incident took place on 14 August when the crocodile was rescued and released into a nearby lake.
