Better call Mickey? It’s no secret that we enjoy shows about clever and witty lawyers who toe the line with both ethics and danger, be it legal or otherwise. Netflix’s original series The Lincoln Lawyer has been checking all those marks so far with its first season, and we won’t have to wait too much longer to see Mickey Haller’s return. Per a report from Collider, the official trailer for the upcoming second season has dropped, giving fans a firsthand look at what’s next on Mickey’s legal docket as his fame carries him to new heights, for better or worse.
The Lincoln Lawyer is a legal drama series created by the exemplary David E. Kelley, who has previously helmed numerous other classic television series over the past three decades such as Chicago Hope (1994), The Practice (1996), Ally McBeal (1997), and Boston Legal (2004). More recently he brought to screen HBO’s award-winning drama series Big Little Lies (2017), The Undoing (2020), and with Netflix he’s also done The Anatomy of a Scandal (2022). The Lincoln Lawyer, which is based on the 2008 novel The Brass Verdict by Michael Connelly, is Kelley’s latest project with the streaming platform, which he co-developed with Ted Humphrey. Both also serve as executive producers alongside author Connelly and Ross Fineman. Starring in the series are Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (Goliath), Neve Campbell (Scream), Ugly Betty alum Becki Newton, Jazz Raycole (The Quad), Angus Sampson (Mad Max: Fury Road), and Christopher Gorham (Insatiable). The series follows Mickey Haller (Garcia-Rulfo), a criminal defense lawyer in Los Angeles who infamously takes on cases in the back of his Lincoln Navigator and doesn’t mind bending the rules of the law in his favor.
Mickey’s Rise Isn’t Without a Backhand or Two
The new trailer opens with Mickey (Garcia-Rulfo) cruising down the Pacific Coastal Highway in his iconic blue Lincoln Navigator, complete with his “NTGUILTY” vanity plates. Back in his stomping ground of cutthroat Los Angeles, business is taking off for him, with magazine covers, numerous interviews, and being dubbed the “hottest defense attorney in LA”. It all certainly doesn’t go to his head as countless boxes of new cases are hauled into his brick-and-mortar office where Cisco (Sampson) and Mickey’s second ex-wife Lorna (Newton) burn the midnight oil to wrangle as many as possible. Of course, all the fame simultaneously puts a target on Mickey’s back, as we see him getting sucker punched in a parking garage perhaps by some dissatisfied clients, or the hired muscle of said clients. He also finds new love with Lisa Trammel (Lana Parrilla), who winds up getting arrested for an unknown reason near the end of the trailer. That cues Mickey to step up as her lawyer, and Lorna jokes that he’ll do it all pro bono for obvious reasons.
The first part of the second season of The Lincoln Lawyer will premiere on Netflix on July 6, with the second part to follow on August 3.
