Cruise packing warning over banned items – ‘will be confiscated’

Although passengers will be able to take more than 100ml of liquid on a cruise ship, there are still a few banned items guests should watch out for. From candles to baby monitors, some items won’t get through security.

Royal Caribbean is one of the world’s biggest cruise companies and one of the most popular brands in the UK.

It states on its website: “Weapons, illegal drugs, and other items that could interfere with the safe operation of the ship or the safe and secure environment of our guests and crew are prohibited.

“These and other similar items will be confiscated upon being found.

“Alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, flammable liquids, explosives, and dangerous chemicals will not be returned.”

While it’s no surprise to see weapons on the banned items list, some forbidden products might be more of a shock.

Candles and incense

Passengers aren’t allowed to take any item that can produce an open flame onto a cruise ship due to fire concerns.

Cruise experts at the Points Guy, recommend passengers take battery operated tealights if they want to set the mood.

Coffee makers and hot plates

Items that generate heat including coffee makers and hot plates won’t be allowed in a passenger’s cruise cabin.

However, many ships offer tea and coffee on a complimentary basis which means guests have no need to make their own.
