Crysis fans have been sent into a blood-pumping tizzy this morning after a Chinese social media website seemingly jumped the gun on what appears to be an official announcement of a brand new sequel.

A mysterious new image popped up on social media service BilliBilli earlier this morning, alongside text which — roughly translated — read: “Crysis 4 project is confirmed, opening a new nano battlefield! Follow @Crytek_Official, we will continue to update you with the latest news.”

The post has since been removed.

The supposed sequel will be the first new release in the sci-fi shooter series in almost a decade, following on from Crysis 3, which launched on PC and consoles to both critical and fan acclaim back in 2013. More recently, the original Crysis trilogy was remastered, bringing its hi-tech, hi-octane action to PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

No doubt we can expect an official statement from Crytek in the near future. Better get that rig in gear.
