CSK lost the tournament opener against Gujarat Titans (GT) before bouncing back with wins against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Mumbai Indians (MI). RR, on the other hand, won their first match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) before suffering a 5-wicket defeat against Punjab Kings (PBKS). They defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) in their last match.
Ahead of the two sides first encounter against each other in the IPL 2023, let’s have a look at four batters who can end up with most runs in the match.
Ruturaj Gaikwad: The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) opener is the second-highest run-scorer in the ongoing tournament. He has scored a total of 189 runs in three matches at an average of 94.50 and a strike rate of 161.53.
The extremely talented right-hander has scored 92, 57 and 40 unbeaten runs in the first three matches against GT, LSG and MI respectively. His sublime form at the top will be a major headache for Rajasthan.
Ajinkya Rahane: The 34-year-old former Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain made his CSK debut in the match against CSK and ended up scoring fastest IPL 2023 fifty off 19 balls. The record was bettered by LSG’s Nicholas Pooran on Monday.
The cracking 61 off 27 balls have given a new life to Rahane’s IPL career and CSK’s batting unit. The 34-year-old is likely to make it into the eleven for the next match as well. Rahane’s record at Chennai is a forgettable one. He has scored just 58 runs in five matches.
The experienced campaigner would be aching to better his IPL record at the venue against his ex-team.
Yashasvi Jaiswal: The young opener is currently the second highest run-scorer for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2023. He has scored 125 runs in three matches at an average of 41.66 and a strike rate of 164.47. The first three matches has seen him score 54, 11 and 60 runs.
In his last outing against Delhi Capitals, the right-hander was adjudged Man of the Match for his 60 off 31 balls.
Sanju Samson: The RR captain has played a total of two IPL matches in Chennai and scored 34 runs at a strike rate of 125.92. In the ongoing season, Samson has scored 97 runs in three matches at an average of 32.33.
Samson scored 55 in his first match of the season against SRH. He followed it up with 42 versus Punjab Kings before getting out for a duck against DC. On Wednesday, the 28-year-old would definitely aim to make a comeback and entertain the crowd with his power-packed batting.
