Curb-sitter outside Robert Plant concert is run over by truck

A woman sitting on a curb listening to the music from a Lake Tahoe parking lot concert was hit by a pickup truck, the Douglas County sheriff’s office said.

The crash happened around 9:45 p.m. Saturday on the section of Lake Parkway that runs behind the Hard Rock and Harvey’s resorts in Stateline, Nevada.

The woman and her husband were sitting at the side of the road and listening to the performance by Robert Plant and Alison Krauss at the Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena, a temporary venue set up in the parking area behind the casinos.

A Chevrolet Colorado pickup westbound on the parkway reportedly crossed into the eastbound lane and then onto the shoulder. It ran over the woman, then continued about 10 feet and struck a parked Toyota Camry, the sheriff’s report said.

The truck ended up pinned against a tree and with a tire inside the Camry’s passenger window. The car was unoccupied and was parked legally, the sheriff’s office said.

Several other people who had been listening to the concert came to the woman’s aid until paramedics arrived. She was airlifted to a Reno hospital with injuries including broken bones.

The pickup’s driver, who was not injured, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of violations including driving under the influence causing substantial bodily harm and failing to have vehicle insurance.

A blood alcohol test at the jail found no alcohol in his system, but he reportedly said he had taken prescription drugs that affected his driving.

The driver also said he had fallen asleep at the wheel, having not slept for two days; he fell asleep while in custody in the patrol car, the report said.

The sheriff’s office did not give a city of residence for the man but said he had a warrant out of Rohnert Park for grand larceny.
