Former Olympian Lisa Curry has revealed what happened the night her daughter died in a heart-wrenching extract from her memoir.

Jaimi Curry Kenny was aged just 33 when she died in September, 2020 after a long-term illness.

In Lisa: A memoir – 60 years of life, love & loss, her devastated mother recounts those final desperate hours and the legacy of loss Jaimi has left behind.

Jaimi had been admitted to hospital after she began vomiting blood. Lisa said the next day she and former husband Grant received a call that they had better get to the hospital.

“Grant and I both raced in there, but when we arrived, they said things were okay, she was under sedation and would be staying in overnight at least,” she wrote in the extract published by The Daily Telegraph.

“We stayed for a while then both went back home and planned to return in the morning. But as soon as I got home, 40 minutes later, I got another phone call from the hospital saying, ‘You need to come back’.

“This time, I just knew it was bad.

“I rang Grant and told him, and he turned straight around and went back to the hospital, too.”

Lisa said when she got there, Jaimi was unconscious and on a ventilator.

“I ran to her and called softly, ‘Jaimi, Jaimi, it’s Mum. Open your eyes, baby, open your eyes. Squeeze my hand if you can hear me.’

“But there was no response, there was just nothing. I was numb.”
