Curve bangs are the jaw-cupping cut that offer pretty face-framing

Curtain bangs have been the undisputed Queen Bee of fringes for the longest time, but there’s another chop that’s competing to take the crown. Curve bangs are cool, cute, collected and majorly sweeping our social feeds.

It makes sense since the “Curve cut” hit the ground running at the start of the year thanks to its soft “C”-shaped layers and rounded, balanced shape. “It’s like the revival of The Rachel, but much more soft,” celebrity hairstylist and ColorWow international creative director, Dom Seeley told GLAMOUR – and it’s quickly become one of the most sought-after cuts of 2023.

Blending two headlining chops, curve bangs are basically a mashup of the curve cut and the curtain fringe, but instead of flicking outwards like a trad ‘70s flicky curtain bang, it has more of a sleek ’90s influence and curves inwards to cup the jaw and chin. The benefit is it offers some seriously stunning face-framing action, helping to define features and add structure.

The soft tuck toward the chin feels a little more modern and offers up a pretty alternative to curtain bangs, although the two have a lot in common. Both work with a longer length (anywhere between the jaw and the collarbone) which makes them more versatile for styling as you can tie them back. And both are low-maintenance in terms of regrowth as they’ll disappear seamlessly into longer face-framing layers.

A lot of the difference comes in the styling. You’re gonna want a round brush for this one, to really accentuate the curved “C” shape, but you want to tuck it under and in, towards the face rather than flicking out to get that jaw-hugging shape. Another bonus? It works beautifully with the updos that are currently trending.
