A GoFundMe charity started by Damar Hamlin has received nearly $6 million in donations in the wake of the cardiac arrest he experienced on Monday night, cashing him to collapse on the field.

The community toy drive, which was founded by Hamlin in 2020 to support his mother’s daycare in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, received an outpouring of donations overnight, with over $10,000 coming from famed wrestler Chris Jericho. “The Chasing M’s Foundation Community Toy Drive” initially had the goal of raising $4,000, people gravitated towards the charity in the wake of Hamlin’s shocking cardiac arrest that he experienced during the Buffalo Bills’ game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

The incident transpired midway through the first quarter when Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins was tackled by Hamlin. The latter stood up and took a few steps before going limp and falling backwards onto the ground.

As of this writing on Tuesday, Hamlin remains in critical condition at a local Cincinnati hospital.

The NFL ultimately postponed the game and have not announced a rescheduled date. It will not be resumed this week, according to the league.

Hamlin’s family issued a statement on Twitter, expressing their gratitude at the outpouring of support they’ve received in the wake of the incident.

“On behalf of our family, we want to express our sincere gratitude for the love and support shown to Damar during this challenging time,” the statement read. “We are deeply moved by your prayers, kind words and donations from fans around the country.”
