The Portland Trail Blazers are currently on the outside of the Western conference playoff picture. With a roster unlikely to compete for a title and a few key injuries to the team, some are suggesting that the Blazers look toward the future.
Damian Lillard has other ideas.
A Portland radio host suggested that the Blazers should “increase their odds” to finish in the bottom of the standings in an effort to win the draft lottery.
The host brought up the possibility of the team drafting Victor Wembanyama, the consensus top pick of the 2023 draft who’s believed to be a generational talent.
Damian Lillard’s reply was simple.
“No way,” said the seven-time All-Star.
Despite being near the bottom of the Western standings in 12th, the Blazers are only one game out of the 10th spot, which would get them into the play-in tournament.
The Blazers’ roster is unlikely set up for a deep run in the playoffs, but there’s plenty to play for in the last portion of the season. Lillard is in the midst of another excellent year, averaging a career-high 31.4 points per game.
It’s clear he doesn’t want to see his effort this season go to waste.
