Damian Lillard’s future with the Portland Trail Blazers tops the NBA’s offseason storylines. If he stays, the star guard doesn’t want to oversee a youth movement.
According to The Athletic’s Sam Amick, Lillard still has a “strong desire” to play on a contender. His reported “dream scenario” for Portland’s offseason is the Blazers re-signing Jerami Grant and adding Draymond Green.
However, Amick noted that Blazers general manager Joe Cronin must pull off “some serious salary cap wizardry” to make Lillard’s dream come true.

Acquired from the Detroit Pistons last year, Grant averaged 20.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game last season. The 29-year-old is an unrestricted free agent this summer.
Green joined Grant on the open market by declining his 2023-24 player option with the Golden State Warriors. Given Portland’s limited cap space and the rumored likelihood of the four-time champion staying in the Bay Area, Amick called the addition “an implausible prospect.”
Signing Green may appease Lillard, but it otherwise might not make much sense for a team that went 33-49 last season and drafted a new franchise building block in Scoot Henderson.
Per TNT’s Chris Haynes, Lillard and his agent met with the Blazers on Monday to discuss the team’s direction. The conversation could determine whether the 32-year-old finally requests a trade.
