Dan Harmon’s Krapopolis Gets Renewed for Second Season Months Ahead of Premiere

Fox is confident enough with what Dan Harmon has in store with the upcoming animated series Krapopolis that it has already been renewed for a second season. Officially, the series is not set to premiere on the network until May 2023, serving as part of a new two-hour block of animated shows coming to Fox on Monday nights. Fox will first debut a preview of Krapopolis on Nov. 27 with digital content to follow periodically between then and the show’s premiere in May, per Deadline.

Announced by Fox last year, the then-untitled series is set in ancient Greece and follows a “flawed family of humans, gods, and monsters that tries to run one of the world’s first cities without killing each other.” Emmy winner Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso) is among the voice cast members alongsie Richard Ayoade, Matt Berry, Pam Murphy, and Duncan Trussell. Harmon, who co-created the hit series Rick and Morty, created Krapopolis and serve as an executive producer. Krapopolis is Fox Entertainment’s first wholly own animated series and it is produced by Bento Box Entertainment.

Addressing the season 2 renewal, Fox Entertainment’s President of Entertainment, Michael Thorn, said in a statement: “As you can imagine, anything Dan Harmon does is unflinchingly irreverent and filled with his signature, bold characters; and these early episodes of Krapopolis far surpass even our highest expectations. While we continue to evolve Fox’s animation brand, it’s a true delight watching Dan and his team work their magic on Krapopolis. But it’s an even bigger thrill to be so confident in this special project to be able to reward it with an early renewal.”

This follows a previous statement about the show from Thorn that read, “Leave it to Dan Harmon to turn the mythos of early Greek civilization into remarkably sharp commentary on today’s politics, celebrity and pop culture. This project is an incredibly irreverent family comedy as told by one of the town’s most inventive storytellers. We are proud to be partnered with Dan on this series, which strengthens our hold on the animation space and, as we continue to build Fox Entertainment, marks an important first step for us with our first fully owned scripted property.”

Dan Harmon Previewed Krapopolis At New York Comic-Con

While speaking about the series at NYCC, Dan Harmon noted that historians will not exactly be big fans of the series. Harmon will not even attempt to be historically accurate, and this allows for more creative freedom with what they can do with Krapopolis. This even includes introducing new names that weren’t in the original Greek mythology, such as a lesser-known goddess described by Harmon as the “black sheep” of her family, via CBR.

“Fans of history will not like what this show is doing,” Harmon noted.

Krapopolis will debut in May 2023 on Fox.
