SARATOGA – A hate crime investigation is underway after dark-complexioned baby dolls were found hanging at schools in Saratoga earlier this week, authorities said Wednesday.
The dolls were discovered Sunday at Prospect High School, Monday at Saratoga High School and Tuesday at Redwood Middle School, said Sgt. Michael Low of the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office.
Low said detectives are searching for security cameras and any evidence that will help them identify a suspect. As of Wednesday night, there was no indication the person responsible was targeting anyone in particular.
The sheriff’s office said in a statement that it takes these cases seriously and is “investigating these heinous acts as hate crimes.”
“Hate has no place in Santa Clara County,” Acting Sheriff Ken Binder said. “The sheriff’s office will thoroughly investigate these incidents and request prosecution of the offenders to the fullest extent of the law.”
The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information about a possible suspect to contact Detective Ramon Marquez at 408-808-4559 or the anonymous tip line at 408-808-4431.
