After the Philadelphia 76ers were unwilling to give James Harden the longterm contract extension he desired, so the 10-time All-Star and three-time scoring champ requested a trade from the organization.
Harden, 33, reportedly wants to join the Los Angeles Clippers and play with the All-Star duo of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.
President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey said the team is willing accommodate Harden’s wishes but only at the right price.
“If we don’t get either a very good player or something we can turn into a very good player, then we’re just not going to do it,” Morey said. “If James were to turn his mind around, we would all be thrilled. You’ve heard Joel Embiid’s comments about that. But at this moment, he prefers to be traded, and we are attempting to honor that.”
Harden averaged 21.0 points this season on 44.1 percent from the field and 38.5 percent from long distance while leading the league in assists (10.7).
