Data story: India logs 16,935 new Covid cases; death toll reaches 525,760

India reported an increase of 815 in active coronavirus cases to take its count to 144,264. The country is twenty-seventh among the most affected countries globally by active cases. On July 18, it added 16,935 cases to take its total caseload to 43,767,534. And, with 51 new fatalities, its Covid-19 death toll reached 525,760, or 1.20 per cent of total confirmed infections.

With 446,671 more Covid-19 vaccine doses being administered on July 17, India’s total count of vaccine shots so far reached 2,000,461,095. The count of recovered coronavirus cases across India, meanwhile, reached 43,097,510 — or 98.47 per cent of the total caseload — with 16,069 new cured cases being reported on July 18.

  • India has so far administered 2,000,461,095 vaccine doses.

  • The count of active cases across India on July 18 saw an increase of 815, compared with 2,689 on July 17.

  • With 16,069 new daily recoveries, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.47%, while the fatality rate remained unchanged at 1.20%.

  • India’s new daily closed cases stand at 16,120 — 51 deaths and 16,069 recoveries.

  • The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (8019391), Kerala (6693008), Karnataka (3986320), Tamil Nadu (3517777), and Andhra Pradesh (2327073).

  • The five states with the most active cases are West Bengal (30791), Kerala (24033), Tamil Nadu (17085), Maharashtra (15525), and Karnataka (7569).

  • The five states with the highest fatalities are Maharashtra (148026), Kerala (70279), Karnataka (40131), Tamil Nadu (38030), and Delhi (26292).
