Data story: India records 4,858 new Covid cases; active tally at 48,027

India on September 19 reported an increase of 105 in active coronavirus cases to take its count to 48,027. The country is thirty-fourth among the most affected countries globally by active cases. On September 19, it added 4,858 cases to take its total caseload to 44,539,046. And, with 18 new fatalities, including eight more reconciled by Kerala, its Covid-19 death toll reached 528,355, or 1.19 per cent of total confirmed infections.

With 1,359,361 more Covid-19 vaccine doses being administered on September 18, India’s total count of vaccine shots so far reached 2,167,014,127. The count of recovered coronavirus cases across India, meanwhile, reached 43,962,664 — or 98.71 per cent of the total caseload — with 4,735 new cured cases being reported on September 19.

  • India has so far administered 2,167,014,127 vaccine doses.

  • The count of active cases across India on September 19 saw an increase of 105, compared with 1,074 on September 18.

  • With 4,735 new daily recoveries, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.71%, while the fatality rate is at 1.19%.

  • India’s new daily closed cases stand at 4,753 — 18 deaths and 4,735 recoveries.

  • India on September 18 conducted 175,935 coronavirus tests to take the total count of tests conducted so far in the country to 891,753,120.

  • The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (8115542), Kerala (6786094), Karnataka (4061463), Tamil Nadu (3576814), and Andhra Pradesh (2337911).

  • The five states with the most active cases are Kerala (15755), Tamil Nadu (4926), Maharashtra (4540), Karnataka (3746), and Assam (2710).

  • The five states with the highest fatalities are Maharashtra (148310), Kerala (70998), Karnataka (40276), Tamil Nadu (38040), and Delhi (26499).
