When you are in the running for the coolest guy in all of rock music, which Dave Grohl definitely is, you can only lend your name and likeness to brands that carry that same status. Well, Grohl has found one, partnering with Canadian whisky Crown Royal for a 60-second Super Bowl ad to premiere in the third quarter of the February 12 battle between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.
Crown Royal has been building anticipation for the ad with teaser trailers. In two earlier trailers for the commercial Grohl is seen rattling off random phrases and words, then repeatedly saying “thank you” in the second.
Now, Crown Royal has given me an exclusive look at the third, “Dave Grohl Thanks Studio 606,” seen here. And it very much continues the vein of the thank you ad, with Grohl expressing gratitude for a variety of objects found in the Foo Fighters Studio 606, from his legendary mixing console and a “tiny” guitar pick to flannel for “Keeping the grunge dream alive.” He also thanks “silence,” before instructing the room to get back to work.
We can only wait with bated breath to see where all of this is going on Super Bowl Sunday.
