‘Let’s see who is up for the fight’: David Moyes throws down the gauntlet to his West Ham players after defeat in London derby against Tottenham leaves them in the relegation zone – but Scot is eager for Hammers ‘to build on’ moments of encouragement
- West Ham lost 2-0 to Spurs in an uninspiring performance on Sunday night
- The result leaves Moyes’ side in the relegation zone after a dismal run of form
- The Hammers manager has challenged his players to see who’s ‘up for the fight’
David Moyes said he will be looking his West Ham players in the eyes to see who is up for the fight after ending the weekend in the Premier League’s bottom three.
The defeat by Tottenham was deflating and left the 59-year-old manager under increasing pressure ahead of facing Nottingham Forest at the London Stadium this Saturday.
An angry Moyes said afterwards he expects a reaction from his squad ahead of a very big week of work for West Ham.
‘I do know I’ll be looking to see the colour of the players’ eyes in the next week,’ Moyes said. ‘I can imagine what the colour of mine will be. The players have been challenged now. Let’s see who’s up for the fight.’
On Forest being the next visitors to the London Stadium, Moyes added: ‘Very big. Every game is big. Even today was big.’

For Cristian Stellini, it is three wins from three games in temporary charge of Tottenham. Yet he revealed afterwards that Antonio Conte had a say in everything from his home in Italy, including their substitutions.
Son Heung-min responded to being dropped by coming on and confirming the win, like he did the last time he was relegated to the bench by Conte against Leicester in September.
‘We knew Sonny’s response would be perfect because Sonny is a perfect guy,’ Stellini said. ‘I’m very glad to see this type of performance.
‘It was an important game, important moment. With a win we can reach again fourth place. It’s important now to be consistent in this type of performance.’
Son added: ‘Nobody wants to sit on the bench but it’s a decision you to have accept. The decision is always made by the manager and I need to accept. I got the chance and I was happy to score.’
