Ross Mathews is ready to compliment
Hospitality is all about making people feel welcome, from cozy beds to streaming-enabled televisions. This year, however, Days Inn by Wyndham is taking it further with their newest limited-edition “complimentary” amenity: a mirror in the room of select hotels that offers day-brightening compliments voiced by none other than TV’s endlessly affable Ross Mathews.
This new amenity comes after the success of last year’s talking pillow, which dished out cheeky accolades voiced by actor Patrick Warburton. “The feedback following the launch of our ‘complimentary’ pillow last summer received such an overwhelmingly positive response from both our guests and hotel owners that we had to bring it back again – this time with a new twist on an existing in-room feature,” says John Henderson, president and brand leader, Days Inn by Wyndham. “While the pillow was a huge hit – especially with avid Seinfeld fans who got a kick from hearing Puddy’s (Patrick Warburton’s) voice – the obvious next choice was to introduce the world’s most flattering mirror.”
This year, guests of Days Inn by Wyndham can enjoy the signature wit and charm of Ross Mathews, known for co-hosting The Drew Barrymore Show, as well as judging and producing RuPaul’s Drag Race. Morale is sure to be boosted by quips like, “I’m loving this look! If I weren’t a mirror I would totally steal it,” and, “No one told me we had a supermodel staying with us today!”
Compliments are ready at the push of a button
The complimentary mirror is a natural fit for Mathews, who exudes positivity, like a human ray of sunshine. “It’s all about making people smile, whether it’s on the Drew Barrymore show or RuPaul Drag Race, or even when I’m doing my live shows,” says Mathews of his enthusiasm for the partnership. For Days Inn, the feeling was mutual. “It was an easy decision to work with Ross,” Henderson says. “He’s aligned with our brand’s mission of making days brighter for others and has committed himself and his career to help people smile and light up whatever room he’s in with a dose of positivity.”
Mathews says recording the compliments was a fun experience, as he was given creative freedom to build off the initial ideas presented by the hotel chain. He even channeled his time as a judge on Ru Paul’s Drag Race, having learned the art of the compliment while on the show. “A lot of times people don’t even know how fabulous they are, so a little reminder is a beautiful thing,” he says. “I like to think that just infusing [guests] with a little more confidence; maybe it’ll make the difference in their day.”
Henderson believes Mathews’s voice will bring smiles to their guests, from being pumped up before a day at the beach or getting some extra sunshine before going to sleep. And Mathews hopes guests using the complimentary mirror will take videos and tag him in it, so he can enjoy the experience along with them.
Starting May 22nd through June 30th, up to five complimentary mirrors will be available at 15 participating hotels across the United States and Canada, at no cost to guests: the mirrors are as complimentary as they are complementary. Locations include the Days Inn by Wyndham University Ave SE in Minneapolis, Days Inn by Wyndham Calgary North Balzac in Calgary, and the Days Inn by Wyndham San Diego Hotel Circle in San Diego.
