With wins in four of its last five games, Dayton (17-9) finds itself a considerable road favorite tonight against Loyola Chicago (9-16). The Flyers emerged with an 85-81 victory against the Ramblers last month, but Loyola covered the large 14-point spread.
Oddsmakers have this spread set at 7.5, a considerable difference, as the Ramblers are 4-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last five contests.
Dayton is just 3-6 ATS in its last nine. Can the Flyers earn a blowout win or will Loyola keep things competitive once again?
Let’s check out the odds before my best bet for the matchup.
Dayton vs. Loyola Chicago Odds, Spread, and Total
Dayton vs. Loyola Chicago Prediction and Pick
Dayton is a much, much better basketball team than the lowly Ramblers and seems to be turning a corner with a nice stretch of late, including wins over St. Louis and VCU.
Loyola has struggled since December, going just 5-10 ATS in its last 15 games. Four of those five covers have come in the last five games, so they may be turning a corner as well. Nonetheless, the Flyers have too many advantages in this game and I’m backing them to cover the spread.
In the first matchup, Loyola shot the lights out from beyond the arc by hitting 13-of-25 shots. The Ramblers shoot just 34.8% on the season (139th nationally) while Dayton allows opponents to shoot just 28.5% (8th) so we can expect a worse performance from Loyola in this game.
Dayton is exceptional inside as well, ranking 33rd in two-point shooting percentage (54.8%) while Loyola is 222nd in opponent two-point shooting (51.1%).
With an edge on the perimeter and inside, expect the Flyers to win much more comfortably this time around.
