Deadpool 3 Officially Starts Filming

For years, it seemed like this moment would never actually come, but production has officially begun on Deadpool 3. Ever since the release of Deadpool 2 in 2018, star Ryan Reynolds has been trying to get a sequel made, and it was officially announced last year that Deadpool 3 was in the works. Not only would the sequel bring back Reynolds as Deadpool, the film will also feature the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, the threequel essentially serving as the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of The Odd Couple. It has since been given a release date of Nov. 8, 2024.

In recent months, it had been teased that filming was coming soon. Jackman has been providing sneak peeks at his Wolverine training on social media. Reynolds had also claimed last year that the plan was to start filming just ahead of the summer of 2023. Now, a post shared to Stefan Kapicic‘s Instagram Stories has confirmed that production has officially started. The actor, who returns as Colossus in the threequel, posted a photo announcing that “Deadpool 3 has started production today,” along with the word “confirmed.” You can see an image of the Instagram Stories post below.

Kapicic isn’t the only returning character confirmed for the sequel. It’s also been reported that the new film will bring back other Deadpool film stars like Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Rob Delaney as Peter, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Shioli Katsuna as Yukio, and Karan Soni as Dopinder. Emma Corrin and Matthew Macfadyen have also joined the cast in mystery roles.

Deadpool 3 Becomes a Reality

Shawn Levy is directing Deadpool 3 after previously working with Ryan Reynolds on Free Guy and The Adam Project. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick wrote the script with additional revisions by Reynolds, Levy, and Zeb Wells. Reynolds and Levy are also producing with Kevin Feige.

While the film is also officially putting Deadpool in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we shouldn’t expect for the titular merc to have any less of a mouth. It’s been confirmed that the film will be R-rated, the first of any of the movies set in the MCU to have that rating. But to do anything less just wouldn’t truly feel like a Deadpool film, and that has left Feige giving Reynolds and Co. the blessing they need to keep Deadpool 3 R-rated. Feige clearly is very excited about the project.

“It’s amazing. And we’ve got Hugh Jackman coming back for our first Deadpool film within the MCU,” Feige told EW about the threequel. “That’s our first R-rated film. To have Hugh come back is incredible… For him, and for me, and I think for all of the fans of Marvel, it’s unbelievable what has happened in those 23 years. It’s very full-circle having him come back in this new Deadpool film.”

Deadpool 3 will be released in movie theaters on Nov. 8, 2024.
