Kids may be fussy eaters but they are fascinated with kitchen and given a chance love wearing a chef’s hat. The festival season is almost here with Raksha Bandhan just a few days away and it’s the perfect opportunity to let your child use their imagination and prepare an easy dessert recipe. Good thing is there is no dearth of without-fire or no-bake recipes for kids that can be easily made with their favourite ingredients. The key is to eliminate unhealthy foods, incorporate natural sugar and use seasonal fruits in these recipes. Whether your little one is a chocolate fan or banana lover, loves cake and cookies or puddings, here are some interesting recipes that will enhance their creative skills and give them satisfaction of ‘cooking’ something from scratch.
Gurpreet Kaur, Senior Clinical Nutritionist, Cloudnine Group of Hospitals, Chandigarh suggests some no-bake healthy dessert recipes for your kids.
Yummy choco penguins
Ingredients
– 6 bananas
– 1 cup melted chocolate
– 1 tbsp coconut oil (melted)
– Few candy eyes
– Few orange gems
Method:
1. Peel off the bananas, mix the melted chocolate and coconut oil together in a small bowl.
2. Dip the top and back side of the bananas in the prepared mixture.
3. Add candy eyes on top of the bananas to make eyes and to make the feet, add orange gems in the bottom.
4. You can cut the orange gems into half to make the nose.
5. Freeze for 20-30 minutes and yummy penguins will be ready to serve.
Delicious kitty cakes
Ingredients
– 2 rice cakes in circle shape
– 1 tbsp creamy peanut butter
– Carrots sliced in triangle shape
– Half banana (sliced)
– Few coconut threads
– Black raisins (half cut)
Method
1. Apply the peanut butter on the rice cake evenly.
2. Place the sliced carrots on peanut butter to make ears and bananas to make cheeks.
3. Add raisins to make eyes and nose
4. Use coconut threads to make whiskers and the dessert is ready to serve.
Cool Rainbow jars
Ingredients
– 1 cup cold milk
– 1 box vanilla pudding mix
– 2 crushed graham crakers
– Sliced kiwi, orange, grapes and blue berries
– 1/2 cup melted white chocolate
Method
1. Combine cold milk and vanilla pudding mix in the big bowl and whisk for 2-3 minutes. Let it stand until thick for another 3-4 minutes.
2. Meanwhile add nicely sliced kiwi, oranges, grapes and blueberries in the melted white chocolate.
3. Now add a layer of all fruits followed by the layer of vanilla pudding mixture in clear large cup.
4. Add even layer of graham crakers and repeat to make at least 5-6 layers.
5. Then decorate the cup as per your desire with tiny umbrella and sprinklers and serve it.
Watermelon fruity basket
Ingredients
– 1 large watermelon
– 2 cups black and green grapes
– 1 medium peeled and cubed muskmelon
– 2 cup fresh blue berries or chopped jamun or plums
– 2 medium oranges and kiwi
– Few slices of pineapple
Method
1. Using a sharp large knife to cut the watermelon in such a way that it should look like a basket with handle.
2. In large bowl, combine all the fruits together and In small bowl, squeeze orange to make juice.
3. Add the freshly squeezed juice to the fruits and toss gently.
4. Put the fruits in the basket and your healthy fruit basket is ready.
