The finial on the central dome of the Jama Masjid was damaged after Delhi witnessed the heavy downpour on Monday, said shahi imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari. He also informed that the falling stones had injured two-three people.

“Middle dome finial broke into three parts, two fell down, one is still stuck, said Bukhari adding that if it will not be brought down and it falls, it’ll damage the wall before it.

He said he will write to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and will ask them to inspect the monument and commence repair work at the earliest to avert another tragedy.

Heavy rains and hailstorm lashed national capital Delhi on May 30. The hailstorm damaged several cars, trees were uprooted, traffic came to halt and led to power outages in various parts of Delhi.
