Moreover, the move to reopen the school was taken after the air quality in the national capital started improving and the commission gave a go-ahead.
In the order, the pollution panel said that the physical classes in schools (Class 6 onwards), colleges, educational institutions, skill development and training institutes, other training institutes and libraries in Delhi NCR can resume with immediate effect.
However, the pollution panel added that the physical classes for students upto Class 5 can resume from December 27 when the panel will examine the Air Quality Index (AQI) and the winter vacation schedule.
The pollution panel in its order stated that the Delhi government should follow a phased re-opening approach in respect of schools, colleges and educational institutions located within the NCR.
It must be noted that the schools and other educational institutes were closed in the Delhi-NCR from November 15 due to the deteriorating air quality. Some of the classes reopened on November 29 but were shut again after the Supreme Court rapped the Delhi government amid deep rise in pollution levels.
Earlier, the pollution panel in its reply to the Supreme Court, had stated that the decision on reopening of schools will be based on the impact of relaxations that are already being made for industrial units.
The Supreme Court had last week asked the pollution panel to take a decision on relaxing restrictions imposed on industries, constructions, and factories in the national capital. During the last hearing, the top court had left it to the panel to consider requests made by industry owners and other affected parties for a personal hearing and take their inputs.
