According to Tripadvisor, over 30 percent of Britons will opt for a staycation for their main holiday this year.

But with so many gorgeous destinations to choose from, including a Scottish beach that feels like the Caribbean, it can be hard to decide where to book.

Luckily, a new study from the team at GO Outdoors has found the UK’s best staycation destinations for summer.

The team analysed the number of hiking and biking opportunities, the range of nature and wildlife tours and the average cost of local transport to find the best spot.

This year’s top summer destination was a “delightful village” that offers the “perfect Welsh welcome” to travellers.

Betws-y-Coed, a “delightful village” in Wales was crowned as this year’s top staycation destination.

A spokesperson from Go Outdoors said: ”This delightful village presents the perfect Welsh welcome. Perfect for holiday-goers, Betws-y-Coed is a gateway to Snowdonia and its neighbouring towns.

“Inviting you into a distinctly magical setting surrounded by forests, walking trails such as the Cyrau Walk, and mountain bike tours on routes such as the Gwydir Mawr and Bach, there’s no denying that Betws-y-Coed has plenty to offer.”

Ambleside, one of the Lake District’s top destinations, took second place on the list. The town sits at the head of stunning Lake Windermere.

Unsurprisingly Cornwall took third place on the list, with pretty St Ives rounding off the podium.

However, tourists could find they have to pay a tax to visit the pretty Cornish town soon in new plans to pay for essential services.
