Deontay Wilder is lining up his next fight as he looks to bounce back from his trilogy to defeat to Tyson Fury last month. Wilder, 36, was beaten in what proved a fight for the ages by ‘The Gypsy King’, eventually stopped in the 11th round having been knocked down three times.
‘The Bronze Bomber’ also dropped Fury twice himself during the bout though, and won widespread praise for his resilient display in Las Vegas, in what was his first fight with new trainer Malik Scott.
The American suffered a broken hand in the brutal clash, but that hasn’t stopped him, and Scott, from plotting his route back to action in 2022.
“With Deontay, obviously, the first fight back is not going to be at the level that he just left,” Scott told World Boxing News. “We have to do things the right way.
“At the same time, we can’t go much lower than that (Fury bout) because he’s a high entertainment revenue fighter. He’s big-time boxing.”

Wilder’s first fight against Fury came in December 2018, when the pair boxed to a controversial draw, and he followed that up with a savage first round knockout of Dominic Breazeale five months later.
Then in November that year, he notched another knockout win when he sent Luis Ortiz to the canvas in the seventh round, before resuming his trilogy with the Fury, although there was a 19-month gap between the second and third bouts due to Covid-19 and then legal wrangling as Fury sought to negotiate a unification clash with Anthony Joshua.
Wilder however, took legal action, and a subsequent court ruling ordered that he and Fury had to indeed meet a third time before the British fighter could face anyone else.
It all means Wilder has not won in more than two years and at 36, the American’s next match-up could prove a crucial one if he is to remain in the world title picture.
