Fresh details have emerged about the time Dermot O’Leary and Mel Giedroyc locked lips in the 1990s – and the night sounds absolutely wild.
Throughout the decades, both of the stars have carved out illustrious careers for themselves on TV, with Dermot presenting The X Factor and This Morning and Mel previously co-hosting The Great British Bake Off and Children In Need.
The pair go way back, with Dermot having worked on the programme Light Lunch in the 1990s early on in his career, a show that Mel fronted along with her frequent collaborator Sue Perkins.
Light Lunch had a short shelf life, airing from 1997 to 1999, ending with a raging wrap party where sparks flew between Dermot and Mel.
Speaking on Mel’s Dave show Unforgivable, Dermot – who shares a son with his wife of 10 years Dee Koppang – recalled: ‘I was just starting out in television and I got a job on this wonderful show called Light Lunch. It was a wonderful show to work on.’
He continued: ‘Our wrap party was quite debauched! It was famous for everyone throwing off their shackles and getting rid of any sexual tension that might have been built up through the series.
‘Long story short, everyone snogs everyone else. I end up snogging the talent!’
Mel chimed in on the memorable encounter, admitting that while she had gone ‘very quiet and sweaty’ at Dermot’s recollection, she enjoyed their kiss, saying it was ‘just honest snogging’.
‘I’ve gone really quiet and sweaty. Well Derm, I enjoyed it! It was just honest Nineties snogging, wasn’t it?’ she replied.
Mel, who has two children with her husband Ben Morris, has spoken out about her tryst with Dermot before, making the revelation on Would I Lie to You? in 2013.
The kiss came up again on Children In Need in 2021, while Graham Norton was being quizzed by Clive Myrie for a special edition of Mastermind.
Meanwhile, Dermot told the Daily Mail in 2017: ‘I once had a kiss with Mel Giedroyc when we worked on Light Lunch together.
‘We were a very tight team and at our wrap parties pretty much everybody got off with everyone. I definitely kissed other women that night too – and men.’
The new series of Unforgivable will air on Tuesdays at 10pm from September 20 on Dave.
