Derrick Rose took the podium on Tuesday as a new member of the Memphis Grizzlies.

While taking questions from reporters, Rose revealed what he told All-Star Ja Morant during their first conversation.

“I’m not here to babysit, I’m not here to follow you around, I’m not here to cheerlead. I’m here to push you. I’m very fortunate to be in a situation where a lot of people look at his game and they kind of compare our games together. But he’s on a whole other level.”

Rose won’t just be a backup for Morant, he will be able to provide the young superstar with veteran guidance.

Morant must serve a 25 game suspension to begin the season after his second gun related incident.

Rose begins a new chapter in Memphis after spending the last three seasons with the New York Knicks and two with the Detroit Pistons.
