The bad news keeps coming for Lonzo Ball and the Chicago Bulls.
The Bulls revealed that Ball will undergo another procedure on his left knee, this time to transplant cartilage. Chicago says Ball, who has not played since January 14 of 2022, will remain out indefinitely.
“My main focus has been on returning to the court and getting to a place where I can rejoin my teammates,” Ball said in a statement. “This has been a frustrating process, but I’m confident these next steps are the best path forward.”
Ball signed a four-year, $85 million deal with the Bulls in 2021 after moving to Chicago in a sign-and-trade with the New Orleans Pelicans. To date, he has played in 35 games for the Bulls over the last two seasons.
The Bulls front office offered words of support for Ball, with the team’s executive VP of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas saying “the organization is behind him.”
“I continue to admire Lonzo’s perseverance throughout this journey,” Karnisovas said. “This has been a long and challenging road for him, and this decision [to undergo another surgery] has been a difficult one to make.”
Ball’s next surgery will be the third procedure on his knee in the last two years.
Hopefully, he will be able to heal from it and revive his career.
