Blizzard has done it again. Each of the classes in Diablo 4 has been artfully designed in every aspect. From their range of aesthetics to the abundance of gameplay options, the character selection screen is packed with possibilities. Classes come equipped with stunning spells that fill the screen with unique visuals and dispatch all manner of destruction. Although this list is going to rank one class above another, there are compelling reasons to pick each of these options as your main character.
Having a multitude of viable builds, versatile gameplay mechanics, and striking visuals are what make some classes more engaging than others. Nothing is better than having a class that has a variety of intriguing choices that look and feel powerful, this is what keeps players coming back after hundreds of hours. While Blizzard has made 5 appealing and exciting options, this is how they stack up against each other.

5 Barbarian
The whirlwinding, hammer-slamming, bellowing Barbarian is a visceral showcase of carnage. Channeling all their might into their skills, Barbarian abilities are an impressive showcase of devastating strength. Ground Stomp, Leap, and Charge are some of the returning staples from the Barbs utility toolkit, making the class feel grounded in its roots. Proficient in all the melee weapons of Sanctuary, Barbarians are the up close and personal berserkers of Diablo 4.
Building around Rend, Hammer of the Ancients, or Whirlwind are the general directions that Barbarians gravitate toward. While not new for any returning Diablo fans, these skills are still heavy-hitting destruction. If you want a colossal warrior that’ll bash and thrash the minions of evil, the Barbarian does not disappoint. But if you want a more versatile or visually appealing class, read on.
4 Necromancer
Raising the dead, corrupting the enemy, and using bone and flesh as their weapons, Necromancers have never looked so good. These scythe-wielding destroyers also provide a great meat shield to absorb damage for yourself and your party, giving free rein to cast abilities without pause. The power to summon armies at their will allows Necromancers to keep their foes distracted as they tap into the forces of Darkness.
If building a wall of animated dead isn’t your cup of tea, launch Bone Spears and Blood Lances at your foes, or command a specter of yourself to charge your target with Sever. Regardless of which build you choose, the Necromancer will consume your field of vision with a bloodbath of minions, blight, and annihilation. Just don’t forget to explode every corpse you leave behind.
3 Sorcerer
Controlling the elements of Frost, Shock, and Pyromancy, Sorcerers will freeze, electrocute, and ignite anything foolish enough to cross their path. With intense visuals, incredible damage, and a selection of handy utility spells, the Sorcerer has everything you’d want out of a caster class – and more. If you want to cast back the evil that has awakened in Sanctuary, the Sorcerer is a spell-slinging hellfire that incinerates its foes.
Frozen Orb, Chain Lightning, and Hydra have all returned from past Diablo games, joined by new spells like Ball Lightning and Ice Blades making their debut in the franchise. The Sorcerer can also talent into mage staples like Ice Armor, Teleport, and Frost Nova. But nothing quite competes with an enraged fiery serpent that constricts its targets and burns them in an Inferno.
2 Rogue
Highlighted by two distinct play styles, Marksman and Cutthroat, Rogues alternate between fighting as snipers and assassins. Rogues are perfect for players who want differing play styles that provide distinct gameplay loops, this class never gets boring. Marksman Rogues use ranged skills that unleash a fury of arrows, while they stay at a safe range to avoid deadly encounters. Cutthroat Rogues dash into close-quarters combat, immobilize their enemies, and dart into the shadows.
Whether you prefer to launch bombs from a distance or get into the thick of it, Rogues can eliminate packs of monsters before they know you’re even coming. With one downside, Rogues need to kite or trap enemies on a regular basis to stay alive. If you have the patience to master a highly technical class, the Rogue is the most fun, involved class with the highest skill ceiling.
1 Druid
The most interesting class in Diablo 4 is the Shapeshifting, Nature Magic-wielding Druid. This class is an audio and visual spectacle that will heighten your experience in Sanctuary. When you aren’t playing a Druid, you’ll be happy every time you get one in your party. Starting out slow, but ramping up with gear, aspects, and talent points, Druids are high-health, massive-damage, juggernauts that are a lot of fun to play.
Druids focus their builds around empowering Companions and their Werebear or Werewolf forms, each offering a viable build largely different from the others. Druids also command the forces of Storm and Earth to impale foes, enhance their attacks, and shield themselves. However you choose to balance between Nature Magic and Shapeshifting, if you roll a Druid, you won’t regret it.
