“I mean, I don’t say this very often, but I was shaken,” said author Andrew Morton, who secretly interviewed Diana for 1992’s Diana: Her True Story.

Morton, 69, serves as a consultant on the current season of The Crown, which shows the nasty end of Princess Diana’s marriage to then-Prince Charles (played by Dominic West).
After Morton’s book was published it was revealed Dr. James Colthurst transported written questions from Morton to Diana and then she recorded answers to send back.
“What I didn’t realize at the time was her sense of isolation, her sense of despair inside the royal system,” recalled Morton.
Following Diana’s 1997 death, Morton’s book got an updated release, finally revealing the princess was his primary source.
Morton also said Netflix also went out of its way to ensure its portrayal of him was as accurate as possible.
“The scriptwriters had asked me all kinds of questions like, what was the color of the wallpaper in my daughter’s bedroom because that’s where I had an office for a time,” said Morton.
