Dick Van Dyke was involved in a car accident in Malibu on Wednesday morning. He got minor injuries in California. He was driving his Lexus LS 500 in wet weather conditions when he lost control of his car, causing it to skid and crash into a gate. His nose and mouth were bleeding after the accident but was treated at the scene and refused to go to the hospital. The police authorities have confirmed that drugs and alcohol were not the reason behind this accident. In 2010, he was rescued from a burning Jaguar on a highway in Los Angeles. Despite being dragged out of the car, he stated that he did not realise that the car had caught fire. Instead, he thought the car had started making noise and at first, he believed it was a flat tire. He managed to get out of the car safely, and the vehicle later burned to a crisp. Thus, got saved after such a gruesome accident.
His career spans over seven decades, with notable works in theatre, television, and films. He has won various honours, including a Daytime Emmy, a Daytime Tony, a Grammy, four Primetime Emmys, and a Golden Globe. He shot to fame for his roles in Mary Poppins and other classics from the 1960s.
Though he has taken retirement from his career, he still gets huge media attention. In 2010, he recalled a personal incident in which he fell asleep on a surfboard and drifted out to sea.
The accident has sparked many concerns regarding Van Dyke’s ability to continue driving at such an old age, with authorities reportedly asking him to retake his driver’s license test. With Van Dyke’s reluctance to be hospitalised, it raises concerns about his ability to assess the extent of his injuries at his age. Despite of what has been said, he is currently recovering and has received an immense support from fans and industry colleagues. They have extended their warm wishes for his speedy recovery.
Fans last saw him on the small screen in February, when he was unveiled on the season 9 premiere of The Masked Singer. In the first episode, three masked contestants tried their best to secure a place in the second episode, without disclosing their identities. Their costumes were Mustang, Gnome, and Medusa. Dick Van Dyke as Gnome was eliminated in the first round. Then, Mustang and Medusa gave a tough competition in the Battle Royale round. The two sang Rihanna’s Diamonds. The Mustang’s costume was worn by Sara Evans.
