Needing 113 runs on the final day, the hosts got off to a rough start, losing Ollie Pope for 82 in the first over of the day. However, Jonny Bairstow blew away the visitors with another powerful innings as he scored the second-fastest fifty in Test cricket. Bairstow reached the feat in just 30 balls.
He and Root remained unbeaten as England chased down the target in just 15.2 overs to whitewash the World Test Champions and win the series 3-0. Bairstow scored 71 runs while Root scored 86.
The effort from the hosts received a lot of praise from all corners and Karthik was the latest to chime in. The Indian wicketkeeper, who is currently part of the squad touring Ireland, took to Twitter and said that England are redefining the way Tests are being played. He called their approach attractive and enjoyable. He also suggested that the upcoming Test match against India would be a superb contest.

The change in approach under the new regime of Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes has been a refreshing one as it has received plaudits from all over the world.
While the hosts do have momentum on their side, India head into the game sweating over the availability of Rohit Sharma. The Indian captain tested positive for Covid-19 and the management remains hopeful that he would make it in time for the rearranged Test.
India have roped in Mayank Agarwal as a backup option for Sharma. There has been no announcement as of now about a change in captaincy for the match.
