Ding Junhui dumped World Champion Ronnie O’Sullivan out of the Six Red World Championship in Pathum Thani, winning 6-2 to set up a quarter-final meeting with Stuart Bingham.
China’s 14-time ranking event winner Ding has now won his last two encounters with O’Sullivan, having beaten him 6-0 at the UK Championship earlier in the season. His meeting with Bingham is a repeat of the 2016 Six Red World Championship final, where Ding prevailed 8-7.
Judd Trump beat Mark Williams 6-3, in a re-run of the Masters final, to book his spot in the quarter-finals. He faces Hossein Vafaei in the table one match this evening, after the Iranian sealed his progression with a 6-3 win over Thailand’s Noppon Saengkham.
John Higgins and Tom Ford will meet in the last eight after securing wins this afternoon. Higgins defeated Joe Perry 6-2, while Ford was a 6-3 victor against Chris Wakelin.
Zhang Anda ended the dream run of 53-year-old Thai legend James Wattana, winning a keenly contested clash 6-4. He now faces Thepchaiya Un-Nooh, who beat Dechawat Poomjaeng 6-2.
