On Tuesday morning, the Philadelphia 76ers parted ways with head coach Doc Rivers.
Rivers had been the Sixers’ head coach since taking over prior to the 2020-21 season, but his tenure ended with this year’s Eastern Conference Semifinal loss to the Boston Celtics.
Rivers shared a heartfelt message to the Sixers organization and the city of Philadelphia after his firing on Tuesday.
“I really enjoyed my time in Philadelphia — what a great city. I wan tot start by thanking my staff, that players, and the ownership group for their support. We got a lot done in a short amount of time. I’d also like to thank the 76ers fans. Whew… you guys are tough, and I think you’ve learned I’m tough too. I absolutely love your commitment to the city and its teams — never lose that. I wanted, just as badly as you, to bring another championship to Philadelphia. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to lead, learn, and to love this great city.”
Rivers finished his three seasons in Philly with a 154-82 record — failing to make it past the conference semifinal each year.
Mike Budenholzer, Sam Cassell, Mike D’Antoni, Nick Nurse, Frank Vogel and Monty Williams are reportedly among the coaches being considered as Rivers’ replacement in Philly.
