DOGGY DATES: Perth’s best spots to take your canine pals

You’d be hard-pressed to find a more devoted fur parent than Jason Steel.

The founder of digital marketing agency Hello Mother is smitten with his cocker spaniels Bailey and Gordon, and when he isn’t creating strategies for some of Australia’s top influencers and brands, he is exploring Perth with the pooches in tow.

A veritable expert on the most pet-friendly spots in town, Steel shares his personal favourite places for hanging out with your beloved dog.

Hyde Park

This is our local park where we take Bailey and Gordon every day. Whether you’re looking for a scenic family walk or a little picnic with treats from local bakeries Chu or Miller and Baker, it’s the perfect place to exercise, socialise and relax. Bailey and Gordon love catching up with their friends and neighbours here and the lakes have swans and ducks which they like to stop and watch.

Bayswater Riverside Gardens and Ellis Brook Valley Reserve

When mum and dad need to let the dogs go crazy and burn some energy, we take them to Bayswater Riverside Gardens. This huge park by the river has plenty of room to roam. The boys love to chase each other then dive into the river for a swim to cool off.

Alternatively we’ll take them to Ellis Brook for a picturesque hike and a dip in the river. There’s usually a few other dogs for them to meet around here too but make sure you keep your furry friends on a leash in case they decide to run off after a bird.

The Queens Hotel

This is a super fun pub with good food, decent Prosecco and of course, is very dog-friendly. We usually have family lunches here with extended family or catch-ups with friends who have dogs. As the main attraction, it almost seems as though being a dog person is a must here.

Soulsby Barbers

I started coming to this North Perth barbershop before we got Gordon last year because Bailey used to be attached to my hip 24/7 and I needed a dog-friendly barber. Nicole, who is responsible for my sharp haircut, loves the boys who both have their own designated chairs to sit on while they hang out.

Hello Mother HQ

Our renovated terrace house has superb views of the city which the boys love to gaze over from their vantage point on the balcony. This is where we have family events for both families and it’s also the meeting place for our friends to come over, as I love to cook while my partner Brayden makes great cocktails.

In amongst all this chaos is where I also get to work. Both of the boys are on the Hello Mother admin team, but they’re always behind on their emails because they’re either sleeping on the job or chasing each other around.
