Doja Cat Just Shouted Out Nicki Minaj In Her New Single “Attention”
Doja Cat’s “Attention” Name Drops Nicki Minaj

Attention, attention: A new Doja Cat has entered the chat.

And she has indeed entered a new era. Her new single bites back at critics and showcases her rap abilities in verses addressing her new look and power over the haters.

In her second verse, she raps about paying respect to her predecessors, despite consistent industry “beef” and pressure to be pitted against other female rappers.

She’s likely alluding to her relationship with Nicki Minaj, who she has continuously paid respect to and praised as one of her main influences and also collaborated with on a remix of her song “Say So.”

Nicki is overall no stranger to controversy, having had public beef with other rappers like Latto and Cardi B, and she’s previously been accused of harassing her husband’s sexual assault victim. She was later dropped from the lawsuit.

Later in the verse, Doja name-drops Nicki Minaj directly, rapping “Why she think she Nicki M? She think she hot shit,” likely in reference to the comparisons and apparent influence she gets from the rapper.

But she spins it positively, rapping, “Of course you bitches comparin’ Doja to who the hottest,” nodding to Nicki’s argued title as the “queen of rap” and Doja’s own ability to match the same skills as a rapper.

While Doja clearly calls out Nicki, she shut down rumors in a now-deleted tweet that the line, “Why she think she Nicki M? She think she hot shit,” was a diss to Cardi B, since “Hot Shit” is a song by the rapper. She wrote, “the reach is definitely reaching.”

In any case, Doja doesn’t seem to be holding back in this new era, so I’m excited to see what’s in store next!
