The wait is over for the Miami Dolphins to bring in an outside free agent for offensive line depth and competition.

They agreed to terms with former New York Jets lineman Dan Feeney on Thursday morning, according to a league source. The Dolphins are also bringing back offensive tackle Geron Christian after the team brought him on board late last season.

Feeney can make a push to play at left guard or replace Michael Deiter, who remains a free agent, as backup center behind Connor Williams. Liam Eichenberg, the Dolphins’ 2021 second-round pick, was the starting left guard last season, and Robert Jones filled in serviceably when Eichenberg was injured with a knee ailment. Practice-squad guard Lester Cotton also started the playoff loss at the Buffalo Bills when Miami dealt with multiple injuries on the line.

Feeney, who has 64 career starts, has mostly been a reserve for the Jets the past two years but has started in spot duty. He also contributes on special teams. Before going to New York in 2021, Feeney was a third-round selection of the Los Angeles Chargers in the 2017 draft who started 57 games with the team over his first four NFL seasons.

Christian was claimed off waivers Jan. 5 last season ahead of the regular-season finale and playoff game to provide an extra body for a line that was depleted by injury late in the year, but he did not see game action with the Dolphins. Previously playing with Washington, Houston and Kansas City, Christian has 16 career starts over five NFL seasons since he was a third-round pick out of Louisville in 2018.

The Dolphins announced Wednesday that tackle Kendall Lamm, who started the Jan. 1 game at the New England Patriots while Pro Bowl left tackle Terron Armstead was out, was re-signed to the team.

Miami has shifted to making moves on the offensive line after checking off earlier needs in the secondary, at linebacker, running back and backup quarterback. The Dolphins agreed to terms with safety DeShon Elliott on Wednesday and also announced the blockbuster trade for star cornerback Jalen Ramsey was official.

Miami, on Tuesday, brought back all four running backs from last season, including the top-two tandem of Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson. On Monday, the Dolphins secured backup quarterback and local product Mike White while bringing in versatile linebacker David Long and re-signing reserve linebacker Duke Riley.
