Dominic Cummings has taken time out from trying to embarrass his former friends in government to offer UFC superstar Nate Diaz some business advice.
The former chief advisor to Boris Johnson is clearly a fan of MMA and has taken an interest in the business side of the sport, with some wise words for the fan favourite from Stockton, California.
Diaz has lost his last two bouts in the UFC, against Leon Edwards and Jorge Masvidal, but is widely expected to fight Conor McGregor for a third time at some stage, after their first two scraps resulted in one win for each man.
With one fight left on his current UFC contract, Cummings reckons Diaz should avoid signing a new one, offer his services elsewhere for more money and await a monstrous offer to return and meet the Notorious for a third time.
Diaz wrote on Twitter, hoping for a bout to be agreed soon: ‘I’m fight somebody.’
This is where Cummings stepped in with the advice, writing: ‘Do not sign new UFC contract, you will make more cash outside AND @danawhite will come do a deal at some point for trilogy @TheNotoriousMMA fight, but outside you’ll have much more leverage & make more $. Look how they screwed @GeorgesStPierre, now waiting for contract to expire.’
Diaz could be in a slightly sticky situation, contract-wise, with one fight left on his deal and the UFC desperately wanting to avoid him becoming a free agent.
Experience MMA manager, Ali Abdelaziz explained the situation, saying that Diaz may be strong-armed into a new contract with the company if he wants to take any fight that isn’t McGregor next, with a Vicente Luque scrap proposed as a possible next outing.
‘Listen, I believe Nate Diaz has one fight left on his contract,’ Abdelaziz told MMA Fighting. ‘I like the [Luque vs. Diaz] fight. I think it’s a great fight. I think the UFC, it’s a business, they want to make money and I think Nate and Conor will make them so much money.
‘I think the only way UFC will agree to make this fight happen [is] if Nate re-signs with the UFC. But, I don’t know if this is good for Nate to re-sign with UFC.’
