Donny van de Beek should NOT have joined Everton on loan, says former Manchester United defender Paul Parker, who claims the Toffees are ‘not the right club’ for the Dutchman under the ‘inexperience’ of Frank Lampard

  • Donny van de Beek joined Everton on loan for the rest of the season in January
  • The Dutchman had struggled for first-team football at Manchester United
  • Former United defender insists Van de Beek did need to leave to prove himself
  • But Parker fears choosing unstable Everton may not have been the best move

Former Manchester United defender Paul Parker fears Donny van de Beek may have made a mistake by joining Everton on loan for the rest of the season.

The Dutchman signed for the Toffees on deadline day having struggled to break into the United first-team under Ralf Rangnick.

Van de Beek was a high profile £35million summer signing for former United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the summer of 2020, but he has struggled to get any run in the first team since.

Now, former United defender Parker admits that the Dutchman needed to leave Old Trafford to show his full ability, seen during Ajax’s extraordinary run to the 2019 Champions League semi-finals.

‘Donny van de Beek needed to go. He needs an opportunity to prove himself,’ Parker told BonusCodeBets via the Metro.

‘Man Utd have lost players, but I think they’re players who needed to go. Van de Beek, needed to go. He needs the opportunity to prove himself and I really hope it works out at Everton.

‘He goes there and proves people wrong. He deserves that and only he can make that happen, by going there and proving a point.’

However, Parker believes the instability at Goodison Park means that the short term switch to Merseyside may not have been the best move for him.

With Carlo Ancelotti and Rafa Benitez having left following short spells as manager, Parker believes it is a risk for Van de Beek to now try his hand on showing his potential in the Premier League under the ‘inexperience’ of new Everton manager Frank Lampard.

‘I don’t think Everton is the right club for Donny van de Beek because it wasn’t right under the previous two managers,’ he added.

‘They’ve got an inexperienced manager now, to go and try and do that, with very much the same clutch of players, which the previous two (managers) couldn’t get going. So I don’t know how he’s gonna do that job.’
