‘The Shoppers runs are mandatory’

Before heading out on a lengthy road trip, Drake did what most of us usually do: he stopped in at his local Shoppers Drug Mart to make sure he’s well stocked to live his life out of a suitcase for the next four months.

The Toronto-born rapper is hitting the road for his first tour since 2018 later this month and before he leaving, he popped into the retailer to make sure he had all of the essentials.

“And away we go…,” the Grammy winner captioned his post, in which he was also seen wearing a TTC jacket.

“The Shoppers runs are mandatory,” one fan commented, with another suggesting Drake was “splurging with Optimum points.”

Shoppers’ official Beauty account spotted his post and cheekily wrote, “You are in the wrong aisle….”

The Hotline Bling hitmaker’s outfit was also a hot topic of conversation, despite the TTC’s reputation taking a hit amid an uptick in violence on Toronto’s transit service.

“I NEED that jacket,” one fan wrote, with another declaring, “[He’s the] only man in the city who doesn’t drive the bus…. But has access to the exclusive TTC JACKET.”

In April, a local man pleaded with Drake to help subsidize the TTC by releasing an album and donating the royalties to the beleaguered service.

“Obviously, the idea of making an Instagram and posting on the daily, pleading to Drake to subsidize the TTC is, I guess, a satirization of what is, in fact, a very scary collapse of an integral public service,” Elliott Gallagher-Doucette told CTV.

“In the face of that collapse, we have to beg the question, that since the custodians of our society have failed us – will Drake save us?”

Coincidentally, Drake filmed parts of the video for his hit Started From the Bottom at a Shoppers in Binbrook, Ont., way back in 2013. His relationship with the retailer also extends to his high-priced scented candles, which he also sells in its stores.

We apologize, but this video has failed to load.

He also rode the rocket when he filmed What’s Next on an empty subway car in 2021.

TTC spokesperson Stuart Green shared a link to the video with the caption: “Drake is real people like the rest of us — riding the rocket and all in his new video…”

Drake’s It’s All a Blur tour kicks off June 29 in Memphis and will wend its way across North America before wrapping with a two-night stand at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena on Oct. 5 and 7.

Fans complained loudly on social media that ticket prices for all his shows were out of reach.

“These Drake tickets have people out here fighting for their lives,” one person wrote on Twitter with another declaring, “$200+ for nosebleed drake tickets is criminal … TICKETMASTER YOU WILL CRUMBLE.”

Shortly before his trip to Shoppers, Drake penned a farewell message to his fellow Torontonians sharing a photo of the city’s gorgeous skyline.

“Goodbye my beautiful city. I haven’t left for this reason in almost six years but I hope I can make you proud once again. I love you all,” he wrote.

“Have an amazing summer and please try to take care of each other. See you in October.”
