Drishyam 2 enters ₹200 club; will overtake Golmaal Again to become Ajay Devgn’s second-highest grosser

Drishyam 2 team has many reasons to celebrate as the Hindi remake has entered the 200 crore club on Saturday. Sequel of the 2015 film Drishyam, the Hindi feature is also a remake of the 2021 hit Malayalam film starring Mohanlal. Ajay Devgn, Shriya Saran and Tabu all return for second part, while Akshaye Khanna was added to the cast. Directed by Abhishek Pathak, Drishyam 2 is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Kumar Mangat Pathak, Abhishek Pathak and Krishan Kumar. It released in theatres on November 18. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the numbers for the film as it reached this new milestone. He wrote, “#Drishyam2 enters 200 cr Club… #AjayDevgn’s third film to hit DOUBLE CENTURY… 2017: #GolmaalAgain / Diwali / Day 24, 2020: #Tanhaji / non-holiday / Day 15, 2022: #Drishyam2 / non-holiday / Day 23.” The thriller earned 4.67 crore on its fourth Saturday, taking its numbers into the exclusive club with a total of 203.59 crore.

The film also creates a personal milestone for Ajay as it becomes his third film to earn 200 crores, after Golmaal Again (2017) and Tanhaji (2020). While the former released on Diwali five years ago, Tanhaji and Drishyam 2 have all released on non-holidays. Taran also added that Drishyam 2 was likely to take the lifetime earnings of Golmaal Again on Sunday.

With a promising fourth Saturday, all eyes are also on Sunday to see if the Hindi film can carry its good run into the coming week. The remake has five days until another sequel, Avatar: The Way Of Water, directed by James Cameron, hits theatres on December 16. The Hollywood film has already set a record by earning over 10 crore nett in advance bookings in the run up before its release.

The Hindustan Times review of Drishyam had stated, “Loaded with ingredients of a commercial potboiler — be it dialogues, punchlines, expressions, and even subtly placed humour — Drishyam 2 doesn’t disappoint. Each track opens a new can of worms and goes beyond you can comprehend. Justifying the story, an equally captivating screenplay by Aamil Keeyan Khan and [Abhishek] Pathak gives Drishyam 2 an edge and doesn’t let it go off track.”
