Peter O’Driscoll, Managing Director at RingGo warned drivers would not face the higher charge if their appeal was unsuccessful. It means drivers have nothing to lose in appealing their parking fine when issued a charge in controversial circumstances.

They found Newcastle Council was the most lenient with 66 percent of appeals getting overturned.

Liverpool was also found to be lenient with 63 percent of penalties being changed after the driver appealed the decision.

Cardiff, Bristol and Leeds were also found to overturn at least half of their total parking appeals.

Mr O’Driscoll said councils usually have a “sensible policy’ and warned they were “not out to get the motorist”.
