The original Law & Order: Criminal Intent ran for 10 seasons and starred Vincent D’Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe. In later seasons, Chris Noth joined the cast, reprising his role as Detective Mike Logan from the original Law & Order. Jeff Goldblum, Julianne Nicholson, Annabella Sciorra and Eric Bogosian also appeared during its decade-long run.
“The timeless appeal of the cases explored in the globally successful Law & Order franchise continue to draw in Citytv audiences week after week,” said Hayden Mindell, senior vice-president television, Rogers Sports & Media.
Produced by Vancouver-based Lark Productions and Cameron Pictures Inc. in association with Citytv, the show is being billed as a “psychological thriller wrapped in a criminal investigation” and will follow an elite squad of detectives who investigate high-profile crime and corruption in Toronto. No casting news has been announced, but a news release said the series will showcase “Canadian stories” and feature homegrown talent both in front and behind the camera.

“Our team is excited for the unique opportunity to produce a distinctly Canadian version of Criminal Intent in partnership with Cameron Pictures,” said Erin Haskett, Lark Productions’ president and executive producer. “We have been collaborating with Rogers Sports & Media since early last year and are thrilled to share the original vision of the adaptation with audiences.”
“We are thrilled to be working with Lark Productions and Citytv to bring this series to life. We cannot wait to showcase our amazing city in the Law & Order franchise,” Amy Cameron added in a statement.
It is not known if this iteration will have any crossover with the current crop of Law & Order shows. The series has been adapted internationally with versions set in France and the U.K.
Law & Order debuted in 1990 and ran for 20 seasons. It spawned several spinoffs, including SVU, Criminal Intent, Organized Crime, and the short-lived Law & Order: Trial by Jury and Law & Order: LA. After a 12-year hiatus following its cancellation in 2010, the original series returned in 2022 with longtime star Sam Waterston back as legendary DA Jack McCoy.
