Eamonn Holmes opens up on health traumas and says ‘every day is a struggle’

The GB News presenter told Express.co.uk last year how he suffered a horrific fall at home following spinal surgery.

The fall led to him breaking his shoulder and, since then, Eamonn has had to rely on a wheelchair to get about.

Now, speaking in a new interview, he said: “Every day is a struggle. Normally I don’t like doing nothing. Now? I can’t move for long and walk. I can do 30 or 40 steps and then I need a chair. My broken shoulder has caused end of problems.

“I spend two hours a day in the gym. I’m not trying to lose 2lbs a week. It’s not about keeping fit. I am literally trying to regain the use of my legs and feet with different trainers and physios. It costs a fortune and I do understand I am lucky to be able to pay for it.”

My right foot won’t do what I tell it to, so I am literally doing brain exercises to open the nerves between the brain and my foot. Walking can be retaught and that is what I’m working on for now.”

Speaking in an interview with Best, the presenter added: “I am inspired to keep going by the positive endorphins. But also in my classes, I see a lot of paraplegic young kids, eight or nine and they have such positivity, it’s inspiring to see them laughing and I think, if they can do this, I can certainly do it!”

Meanwhile Eamonn, who enjoyed watching the recent Coronation, says the country needs the monarchy. “How boring would this country be without a Royal Family,” he said.

“The tourism they bring in is unbelievable. I think the country needs them. It unites us like no politicians can.”
