Fernando Alonso He has signed a wonderful start to the season with Aston Martin, he has managed to get on the podium five times out of seven possible. It is true that in the last Grand Prix he did not get a great result due to a problem with the floor of his car. Which led him to sign the worst result of the season, a seventh position.
Even so, with the points scored in Spain (14), Aston Martin already has more this season (134) than in its four previous seasons in Formula 1 (132) and they are very optimistic for the Canadian GP. The Silverstone team still want more and continue with their development plan. Improvements will come, and ambitious. After the disappointing balance of the Spanish GP, the Aston Martin team principal, Mike Krack, announced that they will have improvements in the 2023 Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix, and that it will be “a big step”. Wind tunnel rules play a trump card in Aston Martin’s hand. The seventh in the World Cup last year has 37 percent more time in the wind tunnel than Red Bull, 20 more than Mercedes, 25 more than Ferrari and is a weapon that they plan to exploit.
Aston Martin took to Montmeló evolutions in the suspension forks to achieve greater stability. He also showed some aerodynamic tweaks to the sidepods and the rear of the car but had a problem with the ground that put a stop to the updates. However, It will be in Canada when the big changes that Auto Motor und Sport already revealed arrive: A new floor, improvements to the sidepods and the DRS and a surprise innovation that the team keeps as a “top secret”. The strategy implemented by the Alonso team contemplates changing up to “two thirds of the car” throughout the season and the engineers promise a significant improvement for the eighth race of the season that promises to be a decisive step forward.
A hard setback from Canada
But off the track the pilot has suffered a severe setback. And it is that Alonso has become a new victim of defaults by the Canadian company House of Lithium, according to ON Economía. According to the aforementioned media, the company has breached the sale contract for Kimoa, the brand that the Spanish pilot launched in 2017. It is an urban textile company focused on sustainability that Alonso himself has been in charge of promoting in his public appearances, wearing one of his shirts, caps or sunglasses, taking advantage of the international pull of his figure. However, the million-dollar losses accumulated over four years they made him make the decision to sell it in 2021. The pilot sold 75% to Revolution Brands (belonging to House of Lithium).
The company confirmed it through a statement in which it was detailed that Fernando would retain 25% of the capital of Quimoalar and will continue to be the ambassador of the brand. In the text, Alonso explained his feelings after the sale: “We created Kimoa with a sustainable soul and a spirit of never giving up, inspired by motor sports. It is an honor to continue carrying the Kimoa logo, building the brand and welcoming everyone who shares our vision into the family.”
But things have not gone as expected. House of Lithium, owned by Andy DeFrancesco and CEO of the business, has failed to pay the full amount agreed for the sale. they also engaged to grow Kimoa’s North American presence to 50 new locations within two years, an expansion that has also not occurred.
At the moment, the pilot has not ruled on this business setback or if he will take legal action.
