Thor Bjornsson Talks Eddie Hall Fight

Eddie Hall piled on the weight over Christmas ahead of his fight with Thor Bjornsson next year, gaining just under a stone over the festive period.

The former World’s Strongest Man will face Bjornsson in a fight dubbed ‘the heaviest boxing match in history’, but they have both been losing weight in preparation for the bout.

That was until the Christmas period, when Hall gained 11lb after being told to enjoy the break before heading into fight camp next year where he will lose even more weight.

He’s still 79lb lighter than his career-heaviest of 432lb when he won the World’s Strongest Man in 2017, during which Bjornsson believes he cheated, and is expected to drop the weight before the big fight.

The Brit took to Instagram to show off his still ripped physique ahead of the fight, admitting that his morning run was “a little harder”.

“11lbs on over the Xmas weekend!” Hall declared in the social media post to his 2.9m+ followers.

“Weighed in at 163kg today and fair to say the run was a little harder this morning but training legs was a breeze.

“My nutritionist said I could eat and drink whatever I wanted… Well after a year of chicken, rice and veg I think my body and mind needed it!

“Hope everyone enjoyed themselves and spent some quality time with the family.”

The former strongman was supposed to face Bjornsson in September, but the bout fell through when he suffered a shoulder injury that required surgery.

But it is now back on, with the pair set to announce a rescheduled March fight date for either Florida or Dubai shortly.

Bjornsson has looked equally shredded in recent Instagram posts, but it remains to be seen how much weight he has gained over the festive period.

In place of Hall, Bjornsson took on arm wrestling champion Devon Larratt on the initial September date, stopping him within a round at the Sport Society in Dubai.

The Icelandic Game of Thrones star has competed in a number of exhibition bouts to prepare himself for the Hall fight, taking on veterans Simon Vallily and Steven Ward in warm-up events.

He was floored by Vallily in their outing, but has shown a solid skillset, and will enter the bout with his British rival as a heavy favourite given his ring experience.

“From what I’ve seen, it doesn’t look promising for him,” Bjornsson told Mirror Fighting earlier this year. “He has a hard time holding his hands in the right position.

“He fights with his hands down and leaves his head open and if he does that then it’s going to be a rough night for him, my reach and my jab are going to hurt him.

“But what he is posting doesn’t mean that he’s going to use that style, maybe he’ll come in with a completely different style, we don’t know, so we just have to wait and see.”
