Nigel Benn reveals he got into an epic sparring match with his son Conor

Eddie Hearn is planning to progress talks with Adrien Broner over facing Conor Benn in the coming days but the American’s weight could be a stumbling block.

The British star proved his credentials as one of the sport’s brightest talents when he brutally dismissed Chris Algieri within four rounds.

Benn is confident that he can continue his world title charge next year and has named Broner as a potential opponent.

His promoter Hearn is planning to stage talks with Broner over a bout next spring, but the American is uncertain whether he needs a tune-up fight in America before returning to 147lbs.

“I have a call with Broner tonight,” Hearn told Boxing Social. “It is the weight with Broner, he has it in his head that he can come in at 135lbs and 140lbs but he has never made it. I think if he lived a life he could make it at 140lbs.

“He wants to have what he has described as a ‘real final run in the sport’. Now is that coming to England in April to fight Conor Benn straight off the bat at 147lbs? Or is that having a fight in American then coming over and fighting him?

“We will discover that soon but we have a global plan for our fighters with star potential and Conor Benn is one of them. We do what we do and make the right moves for Benn.

“We are developing at the right time against the right names: Adrien Broner, Robert Guerrero and Shawn Porter if he wants to come out of retirement. He is making a lot of money and he is going to be a massive star.”

Benn has recorded a sensational rise moving up through the gears throughout his career and is positioning himself to be within touching distance of a world-title tilt.

He has had a successful year defeating the likes of Samuel Vargas, Adrian Granados and now Algieri in a tremendous year of progress for the 25-year-old.

Next year promises to be an exciting year for the young star who has also called out the winner of Amir Khan’s grudge match with Kell Brook which will take place in February.

However Benn is currently focused on a pursuit of Broner next year but has also thrown Mikey Garcia and Danny Garcia into the mix if he is unable to lure the American to the UK.

“Money talks at the end of the day,” Benn told Boxing Scene. “So, I’ve heard Eddie Hearn is trying to make [the Broner fight] happen for the early part of next year.

“If that doesn’t happen, you’ve got the likes of Danny Garcia, Mikey Garcia, who I’d love to share the ring with. I’d like another top American. Ultimately, I leave it with my promoter and my team.

“I’d like the [Yordenis] Ugas fight. I know Ugas is fighting his mandatory, so I know he’s got a tough fight there. … But if they offered me that fight tomorrow, I’d take it as well.”
