Nigel Benn reveals he got into an epic sparring match with his son Conor

Conor Benn could set up a clash with American star Adrien Broner to continue his world title journey if he defeats Chris Algieri on Saturday.

The British star is looking to continue his journey to a world title shot next year as he takes on former title challenger Algieri in Liverpool.

Benn has remained grounded throughout his career with many predicting he can reach the pinnacle of the welterweight division.

His promoter Eddie Hearn has now unveiled his plans to match Benn with American welterweight Broner or even the potential winner of Amir Khan’s showdown with Kell Brook.

“If Conor’s successful on Saturday, there’s talk of him potentially fighting the winner of Khan versus Kell Brook,” Hearn said.

Conor Benn will face Chris Algieri tonight

“To be honest,I tried so hard to make the Benn v Khan fight, but I don’t think either of those guys will continue in the sport after their fight next year. I look instead at a potential fight with Adrien Broner.

“It would be amazing to bring ‘The Problem’ to the UK in what would be a huge arena fight. We’ve seen recently though the danger of overlooking opponents and Conor must be completely focused on the test of Algieri.”

Benn has consistently stated his intentions to mix it at world level in the future as his path continues to build.

The British star has already defeated other world-level operators including Adrian Granados and Samuel Vargas dismissing the latter in the opening round.

Domestically Benn is keen to prove he is the leading talent and has even called for the winner of Khan’s grudge match with Brook.

Although he is unsure on the potential victor of the showdown, Benn is confident that he could defeat either star if the opportunity arises.

“I will fight the winner of that fight,” Benn told Boxing Social. “They both think they are the best welterweights in Britain, I beg to differ.

I don’t know we will see how many people are actually still interested in it, I don’t know how much speed Khan has got left and I don’t know how much Brook’s timing is there.

“But I am leaning towards Kell because all he has to do is land and he could follow through, but it is a 50/50 fight and it is the same even fight it would have been years ago.”

Benn believes that next year is his time to shine, and is eyeing a shot at a world title in the later stages of 2022.

Several other opponents have been discussed for the welterweight star including Broner who has previously reigned as a world champion.

He has also called for welterweight contender Shawn Porter but this now looks unlikely with the American having retired from the sport in the wake of his defeat to Terence Crawford.
